Police have cordoned off a popular Perth dog beach following the discovery of what is believed to be a human bone.

  • Di Hepburn found the bone when she was walking her dog at Brighton Beach
  • Police believe it may be a human leg bone, likely a femur
  • Forensics will determine whether the bone belonged to a human

The bone was found by Di Hepburn, who was walking her dog at Brighton Dog Beach, just south of Scarborough, on Friday. 
“The dog ran straight down to the bone,” she said.
Ms Hepburn said it looked like a human bone.
“I’ve done a bit of anatomy at college, I basically felt that it was,” she said.

She said she called police as rangers arrived at the scene.
“They were told by a surfie guy there was a bone on the beach,” Ms Hepburn said.
Ms Hepburn said she had never seen anything like it at the beach before.

Police have told the ABC they believe it may be a human leg bone, likely a femur.
Detectives have arrived on the scene and forensics have been called.
The area of the beach where the bone has been left has been cordoned off.
A stricken seal is lying about 25 metres north of the bone.
